The story of this place
The Yarra Valley is Victoria's oldest wine region, with vineyards first planted in 1838. The undulating hills covered in geometrically pruned vines create extraordinary landscape compositions, especially in autumn (March–May) when the leaves turn gold, crimson and orange. Morning fog settles in the valley between April and July, creating ethereal scenes of vine rows disappearing into mist. The combination of heritage stone wineries, mature oak-lined driveways and distant blue mountain ranges provides layered depth. Hot air balloons launch from the valley floor at dawn, adding aerial subjects to the composition.
