The story of this place

Tidal River is the main visitor hub of Wilsons Promontory and its beach is the park's most photographed location. The dramatic granite boulders on the beach — some the size of houses — contrast with the brilliant white sand and turquoise water. Norman Bay sweeps in a wide arc with Mount Oberon rising behind. The beach faces north-west, making sunset the optimal time when the last light catches the granite boulders and illuminates the sand. Wombats graze on the grassy flats above the beach at dusk. The Tidal River itself — a small freshwater stream — crosses the beach, creating interesting water patterns at low tide.
