The story of this place

Taronga's Sky Safari bird show offers a rare opportunity to photograph Australian raptors — Wedge-tailed Eagles, Powerful Owls, Peregrine Falcons and Kookaburras — in controlled low-altitude flight with the Harbour Bridge and Opera House as backdrop. The show runs twice daily and photographers who arrive early can position themselves at the front row for unobstructed views. The birds fly directly towards the audience, providing dramatic head-on flight shots. A 300mm telephoto set to f/5.6 and 1/2000s captures sharp wing detail. The harbour backdrop turns the zoo entrance arena into one of Sydney's most productive wildlife photography venues. Admission to the zoo is required.
