The story of this place

Strahan sits on the edge of Macquarie Harbour — six times the size of Sydney Harbour — on Tasmania's wild west coast. The harbour provides extraordinary landscape photography with fishing boats, the historic Esplanade and the distant hills of the West Coast Range as backdrop. The Hogarth Falls walking track (20 minutes) provides rainforest waterfall photography within walking distance of town. The Gordon River cruise departs daily, offering wilderness photography of ancient Huon pines and reflective river channels. Sunset from the Esplanade produces warm compositions with fishing boats silhouetted against the harbour.
