Today, 30,000 people attend annually—some securing their viewing positions the night before. But this civic mall is also where Hollywood came calling: in 1998, the Wachowskis filmed The Matrix's iconic 'Woman in Red' scene here, where Neo walks through the crowd, distracted by a mysterious woman in a red dress before learning the truth about reality.
