The story of this place

On April 25, 1927, just five Legacy members gathered in the pre-dawn darkness at the Martin Place Cenotaph for what became Australia's first ANZAC Day dawn service. Today, 30,000 people attend annually—some securing their viewing positions the night before. But this civic mall is also where Hollywood came calling: in 1998, the Wachowskis filmed The Matrix's iconic 'Woman in Red' scene here, where Neo walks through the crowd, distracted by a mysterious woman in a red dress before learning the truth about reality.
