The story of this place

The Kuranda Scenic Railway is a heritage narrow-gauge railway that climbs 328 metres through the Barron Gorge National Park from Cairns to Kuranda. The railway crosses 37 bridges and passes through 15 hand-carved tunnels through dense tropical rainforest. The Barron Falls stop provides views of the waterfall from a cliffside platform. Photography from the train's open carriages captures the rainforest canopy, steep gorge walls and the Barron River far below. The gradient section through the gorge is the most dramatic — the train clings to the cliff face with views straight down. The railway operates daily.
