The story of this place
The Glass House Mountains are a series of 11 volcanic plugs rising abruptly from the Sunshine Coast hinterland, remnants of volcanic activity 25–27 million years ago. The most photographed peaks are Mount Tibrogargan, Mount Beerwah and Mount Coonowrin, each with distinctive profiles. Sunrise from the east illuminates the peaks in warm amber against the farmland and pine plantation plains below. The Glass House Mountains Lookout on Beerburrum Road provides the classic panorama. Wildflowers bloom in the surrounding heath from August to October. The mountains hold deep significance for the Jinibara and Kabi Kabi Aboriginal people.
