The story of this place
The Fortune of War Hotel has been continuously operating since 1828, making it one of Sydney's oldest pubs. It has witnessed nearly two centuries of history from the same spot in The Rocks: the bubonic plague outbreak, two World Wars, the Great Depression, and the transformation of a working-class waterfront into a tourist destination. The original sandstone building still stands, housing a collection of historical artifacts and photographs. They've seen it all—and kept the beers flowing through it all.
